Description
Originally from Russia and enjoyed by ancient Greeks and Romans. Tops used in salads or cooked, excellent vitamin A and C and calcium. Roots are most tender when young, leaves in stir fries. Likes soil high in organic matter well drained and friable. Sow early spring to late autumn. Slow bolting, large round roots. Sweet mild, fine-grained white flesh. Australia’s favourite variety, introduced in late nineteenth century. Stores well. 45-65 days.
